GILDING

“Take a large miniver brush, made of the hairs of the tip of the tail. Take your fine gold, and with a pair of small pincers take up a leaf of the gold.”

”Il Libro Dell’Arte” – Cennino Cennini (1370-1427)

WATER GILDING

Water gilding is an ancient technique that consists of very gently applying a thin gold leaf onto a surface using water and gelatine. It is mainly used on wooden artefacts such as frames, furniture or architectural interiors, but can also used on glass as is the case with Verre Églomisé.

OIL GILDING

The gold is applied using an oil based size onto a surface that has been prepared with paint or gesso. Oil gilding is more commonly used outdoors as it is very resistant to external conditions.
